Petersburg teen’s shooting death deemed ‘accidental’

PETERSBURG, Va. -- A Wednesday night shooting which claimed the life of a Petersburg teenager is being investigated as an accidental death by Petersburg Police.

"On Wednesday August 28, 2019 at approximately 8:45 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Lieutenants Run Drive for a unresponsive person. Police and EMS arrived on scene and discovered the male victim deceased," a Petersburg Police spokesperson said. "At this time we are not seeking any suspects and there is no danger to the public. The Petersburg Bureau of Police supports safe and responsible gun ownership and would like to remind all to store weapons in your home safely."

Neighbors who huddled around the apartment complex Wednesday said that the neighborhood was typically quiet and that the shooting was a shock.

The accidental shooting came during what's been a violent week in the city. From Monday night into Tuesday morning, police responded to four separate shootings within a six-hour span.
