RICHMOND, Va. – Police have identified the two men who were shot to death early Thursday morning on Richmond’s Northside.

Officers responded to reports of random gunfire at Bloom Apartments located in the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Ave around 2:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers located two adult men in a rear parking lot suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Jammie Lee Walker, 39, and Olajuwon Akeem Elleby, 34, both of Richmond.

"It

’s a hard feeling to see them two guys go like that. They're real good guys in the City of Richmond. They're real nice guys," said Rayburn Jackson, who lives in the apartment complex. Jackson said he was outside with the two victims about 20 minutes prior to the shooting, but had gone back into his unit.

"Really good heart. Down to earth. He was about his money. He had two beautiful daughters that was his world,” said Alecia Nelson, who was friends with Elleby for over a decade. She pleaded with the person or people responsible to turn themselves in. "His daughters, at least, deserve justice for their father. No one wants to wake up one day and their father gone.”

When CBS 6 spoke with Nelson she was wearing a button in memory of another friend, Tyrell Thomas, who was killed in Richmond last month.

"I feel like I’m ready to have a whole shirt full of buttons,” said Nelson, who condemned the ongoing violence in the city. "Y’all is taking fathers, real fathers, away from these kids. The violence gots to stop.”

Shenell Holmes, who said she knew both of the victims, wrote to CBS 6’s Cameron Thompson about them.

“They were wonderful people who had a lot to live for,” wrote Holmes. “When something like this happens to great people, you can’t do anything but be devastated. They both were fathers and always had something nice to say.”

“This is not acceptable at all. You have two families that are grieving and kids who will never be able to share that fun with their fathers,” added Holmes. “Jammie [Walker] was a role model. He was into helping the kids with sports and other activities. He loved so many, especially his kids. They both were just amazing. This should never have happened to them at all and they will be truly missed by many."

Richmond Police say there are in the early stages of their investigation and have not released any information on a suspect at this time. Crime Insider sources said the shooting was drug-related.

The murders were a part of a violent night in Richmond which included four unrelated shootings, according to police.
