Neighbors anxious after Petersburg double shooting: ‘I could hear her screaming’

PETERSBURG, Va. -- A man wounded in a double shooting in Petersburg’s Battlefield Park neighborhood Tuesday evening said he believes his home was mistakenly targeted.

Neighbor and retired Petersburg Fire Chief Willie Massey called 911 after heard gunfire in the 2700 block of Rollingwood Road.

"All of a sudden there was bang, bang, bang... one right behind each other," Massey recalled. "And then it was a pause and then it was bang, bang, bang."

Massey knew someone was hurt.

"She was hurt. I could hear her screaming and hollering," Massey recalled. "And now the guy that lives over there, he’s walking around with a great big bandage on his arm."

Police said the two victims were transported to area hospitals.  The pair suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Crime Insider sources.

The male victim, who spoke with WTVR CBS 6, said he was with his girlfriend in the home's living room when a bullet struck him in the arm.

That man said he believes his house was mistakenly targeted.

However, several neighbors said there is frequent traffic in and out of the home. Now that there has been a shooting, they are worried about their safety.

"I told my wife sooner or later what’s going on over there, someone’s gonna get PO'd, they’re gonna ride by and shoot it up," Massey said. "But they’re gonna ride by the wrong direction and I said they’re gonna shoot this house up."

Police said their investigation is ongoing.

No suspect description was available at last check.
