🍓Weekend Events: Ashland Strawberry Faire, Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell and more

Here’s a list of fun Easter events happening around Central Virginia this weekend.

Ashland Strawberry Faire 
Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Ashland (500 Henry Street Ashland)
FREE 

The Ashland Strawberry Faire is held on the streets of Randolph-Macon College in historic Ashland. The Faire is a traditional celebration to promote the community and celebrate the strawberry harvest.

The Faire is a free, community and family-oriented event during which non-profit groups raise funds and offer something for everyone. There are vendors, food (and not just strawberries), live music and performances, strawberry pageant, Kid Zone, dunk tank - public officials dunked for a charity of their choice, pet pageant, dogs are welcome, free trolley rides.

The proceeds from the Faire provide scholarships and grants to local non-profit groups.

India Mela - An Indian Carnival
Saturday from 11 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Greater Richmond Convention Center (403 North 3rd Street, Richmond)
FREE

Indian cuisine, shop clothing and jewelry and see cultural performances and cooking competition.  The event is free, but there are fees to purchase food and other things.

The Nehemiah Project's Richmond Hope Festival
Saturday Noon - 5 p.m.
Pine Camp Arts and Community Center (4901 Old Brook Road, Richmond)

Spiritual and Motivational speakers, music, games, entertainment. bike give-raffles, free food, patrons encouraged to bring your lawn chairs.

Father’s Day Weekend at the Garden 
Friday and Saturday
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (1800 Lakeside Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228)
Regular Garden Admission (Adults $13 | Children 3-12 $8 | Children under 3 FREE | Members FREE)

Dads and other caregivers deserve more than one day to feel special! That’s why we’ve created a whole weekend of fun. Discover a weekend of family fun in the Garden! Enjoy laid-back activities and crafts in the Children’s Garden Saturday and live music and a cookout (food available for purchase) at Bloemendaal House on Sunday. Garden admission also includes our Butterflies LIVE! exhibit.

  • June 29 – September 22 - Nature Connects®: Art with LEGO® BricksNew Sculptures on display - The wildly popular exhibit returns with new sculptures created with half-a-million LEGO bricks. Features 24 sculptures in 13 displays throughout the Garden
  • July 4 - CarMax Free Fourth of July - Free admission to the Garden all day long! Live music and parade of strollers/wagons in the Children’s Garden.

The Elegba Folklore Society presents Juneteenth 2019: A Freedom Celebration
Friday - Sunday

The  weekend celebration starts Friday, June 14 with a Symposium featuring Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, a Library of Congress History Maker and an authority on African world culture from  6 - 10 p.m. at Main Street Station.

On Saturday, June 15, its Independence Day Our Way at the Manchester Dock, (Ancarrow’s Boat Landing - 1308 Brander Street) 3 - 7 p.m. with the Get Woke Youth Summit, music with DJ Drake, dance, food, shopping, art making, games and the Torch Lit Night Walk on the Trail of Enslaved Africans, at 7 p.m.

Sunday, attendees are invited to pay Homage to the Ancestors at Richmond’s African Burial Ground on June 16 at 3 p.m.

FUTURE EVENTS 

Double O Entertainment and Tin Pan
Tin Pan, (8982 Quioccasin Road in Henrico) 

Double O Entertainment and Tin Pan have merged for a series of Jazz/R&b shows with  nationally renowned artist, “Alyson Williams”  Saturday, June 22nd at 8 p.m. at the Tin Pan. Opening act "Jerel" with his New single, "No Pressure" which is playing on  “WKJS-FM.” This show features a collaboration of  Alyson Williams (First Lady of Def Jam), favorite songs: Just Call My Name (Multi-Platinum), "I need your Lovin, Sleep talk, Just My Luck and Holding Back the Years" (most recent record), Alyson is returning to the U.S. after an extensive tour in Europe doing stage plays and club performances.

7th annual Smoke & Vine Festival
Saturday, July 13, 4 - 10 p.m.
James River Cellars Winery (11008 Washington Highway, Glen Allen, Virginia)
EARLY BIRD TICKETS $25

The event features gospel, pop and R&B legend Howard Hewett music from Visions Band, DJ's Drake and DJ Marc J. . EARLY BIRD TICKETS $25 - 5 wine tastings & souvenir wine glass included. A souvenir wine glass is not included in regular ticket price. Promotion ends Father's Day, June 16th.

CBS 6 Antoinette Essa is back as one of the hosts of the event.
