Scattered thunderstorms possible late afternoon, early evening

RICHMOND, Va. -- After some comfortable weather the past couple of days, it will be hotter and more humid today with highs in the upper 80s to around 90°. A disturbance may produce some scattered storms this afternoon and evening. The chance of storms in not very high, but any storm that develops could be strong to severe. The best window for storms in the metro is approximately 4 to 8 p.m.

A couple of showers are possible tonight with lows around 70°.

It will be hot and humid again on Friday, but a cold front will pass through later in the day. This will bring slightly cooler and less humid weather for Saturday. Highs will be in the 80s. A thunderstorm will be possible near the mountains.

Hot weather surges back into the region on Sunday with highs in the lower 90s. An isolated storm is possible in a spot or two.

Another front will shave a couple of degrees off on Memorial Day with highs in the upper 80s to around 90°. An isolated storm is possible in a spot or two.

It looks like the heat will build for much of next week. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s, but some upper 90s will be possible. The heat index could surpass 100°.
