HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Neighbors living in Henrico's West End discovered hateful graffiti in their neighborhood Friday morning.

The words White Power and swastikas were spray-painted on fences, road signs, and even someone's driveway.

A Henrico County mother, who did not want to be identified described her reaction when she saw the graffiti Friday morning as she drove her daughter to school.

"For me, personally, I felt just upset and shocked and saddened and disturbed and very afraid for my daughter," the neighbor said. "Not to be overly dramatic, I'm sure everything will be fine, but you just never know."

The woman, who says she's Jewish, says as she kept driving they saw more vandalism, mostly swastikas, but also other symbols with ties to Nazism and white supremacy.

Henrico Police said the vandalism was focused in the area of N. Parham Road and Quioccasin Road, and included Holly Hill Road, Bridle Lane, and Farmington Drive.

Investigators say because the content of the vandalism is concerning it is being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Henrico County Supervisor Pat O'Bannon represents the area where the incident happened and says it's a catch-22 when publicizing these types of things as it's what the perpetrators want but the public's help may be needed to catch them.

“This is a person that desperately wants attention, and this is not the way to get attention. Graffiti is not the way to get attention,” O’Bannon said.

For the neighbor, she says it just makes her sad that there's someone or some people in her community feel this way.

“I just really hope that people have awareness of what's going on around them and be the change. Be the change,” she added.

This is a developing story. Witnesses can send news tips, photos, and video here.

Anyone with information was asked to call Henrico Police at 804-501-5000 or call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
