CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — More than 22,000 people lost power in Hanover, Louisa, Caroline, Spotsylvania, and Essex counties when a high-voltage connection between Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) and Dominion Energy failed just before midnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Power was restored at about 3:30 a.m.
“The failure occurred at a substation in Caroline County that directs electricity to 11 other REC substations serving members in six counties and the Town of Bowling Green,” a Rappahannock Electric Cooperative spokesperson said. “Members affected by last night’s outage may experience brief blinks today as repairs are completed and power flow is returned to normal.”
REC’s Eastern Region manager Maxie Rozell said REC crews “responded immediately” and restored power “as quickly and safely” as possible.
