Missing teen with autism found safe in Albemarle County

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — A missing teen with autism has been found safe in Albemarle County early Thursday morning.

The 16-year-old male was last seen at around 3pm wearing a grey button-down shirt, blue jeans and hiking shoes.

The boy was found by the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit along with teams from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management at approximately 2:15a.m.

“After being missing for 12 hours, the juvenile was found in good spirits with minor scrapes, he was medically cleared by the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, and has been returned safely home” stated Chief Deputy Chan Bryant with the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office.

Ground Teams, K9 units, Virginia State Police Helicopter and Sheriff’s Office drones were utilized during the search effort.
