PETERSBURG, Va. -- A man died after he was shot in Petersburg Sunday night, according to police.
Police were called to the 1300 block of Wythe Street, not far from the Wells Fargo bank on Washington Street, for the report of a person shot -- just after 9:40 p.m.
Officers found a 24-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home, Petersburg Police Captain Emanuel Chambliss said.
The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but later died of his injuries.
"This is an active investigation and we are asking for help from the public on this death investigation," Capt. Chambliss said.
