CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A driver was killed in a two-car crash on Beulah Road Wednesday morning in Chesterfield.

"A 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling north on Beulah Road when it hit a patch of ice, lost control and struck a 2015 Nissan Rogue that was traveling south," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. "The driver of the Toyota, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin."

The driver of the Nissan Rogue was hurt, but survived the crash.

Two dogs in the Nissan were taken to an animal hospital.

"Police are still investigating the cause of this fatal crash, but at this point road conditions, lack of seat belt use, and improper tire tread depth on the Toyota's tires appear to be contributing factors," the Chesterfield Police spokesperson said.

Beulah Road, between Irongate Drive and Summerleaf Drive, was closed for hours after the 8 a.m crash. The road reopened at about 12 p.m.

In a neighborhood nearby, one woman who wanted to remain anonymous, said she was not surprised to hear of the crash. She said she and other neighbors have seen other crashes in the same spot due to ice on the road.

"We talk all the time in the neighborhood about how dangerous that curve is," she said. "People drive very, very fast on this road. They don’t seem to be aware there’s a curve right there. There’s some runoff from the street or the houses behind the road which leaves water on the roadway and it always freezes over... I know there was at least one accident yesterday because my husband assisted the driver that wrecked his truck. He actually pulled him out of the truck and I think there was another accident after that one. So it’s a very dangerous area."

This is a developing story. Witnesses can send news tips, photos, and video here.
