NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. -- Two men were arrested in connection to the murder of Leslie Crews.

Crews, 82, was killed inside his Nottoway home on December 2, 2018. He had been shot in the head, Crime Insider sources told Jon Burkett.

Kyle Bryant Wilmoth, 19, was charged with 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Robbery, Breaking & Entering, and Grand Larceny of a Firearm, according to Nottoway County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Leanne Watrous.

Jereme James Lawrence, 30, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to 1st Degree Murder, Receiving a Stolen Firearm, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, and Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance.

A search warrant filed by Virginia State Police says Lawrence lived next door to Crews and Wilmoth had been staying there a few weeks before the murder.

Wilmoth was last at Lawrence's home the day before Crews' body was found, according to the warrant.

It also says that several guns were stolen from Crews' home. It alleges Wilmoth was trying to sell them and said to a possible buyer in a text "I have guns and money and need to get high."

The warrant also revealed that police found most of the guns at Lawrence's home and the home where Wilmoth was staying.

News of the arrests were a positive development for Hunter Dalton, who said he'd known Mr. Crews his entire life.

“It gives you a peace of mind knowing that the case hasn't gone cold,” said Dalton.

Dalton described Crews as "One of the most kindhearted people you could meet. Very nice. Very generous. He would do anything in the world for anybody."

“We're still sad in this community because it happened to all of us. It could have happened to all of us,” said neighbor Colonel Hobbs.

A message sent to CBS 6 on behalf of Crews' two daughters stated that "they really wished to thank" the sheriff's office and the state investigation team "for their many hours of hard dedicated work. They truly have put their hearts into it."
