RICHMOND COUNTY, Va. – A tractor-trailer driver has been charged with reckless driving after a single-vehicle crash on History Land Highway (Route 3) Monday morning.

Virginia State Police responded to the near Mulberry Road (Route 619) at approximately, 6:06 a.m.

“The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 2019 Kenwork tractor hauling a tanker carrying approximately 10,000 pounds of liquid propane was traveling eastbound on Route 3 when the driver ran off road right, overcorrected, and then overturning the vehicle,” said a State Police spokesperson.

There is no spillage of propane during the crash, police say.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Zachary R. Newman, 26, of Callao, Va., was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries. He was not transported to the hospital.

He has been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control.

The crash remains under investigation.

As of 1:30, the roadway remains closed for the cleanup process.
