New neighbor charged with child porn

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. — A man who recently moved into an Orange County, Virginia neighborhood was arrested following a child pornography investigation.

“On January 11, 2019 the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received information from The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on a possible child pornography case that was occurring in Orange County,” an Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. “After a thorough investigation [the investigators] determined that the IP address utilized to upload child pornography traced back to an address in Lake of the Woods.”

Ryan M. Champlin, 36, was arrested and charged with five counts of “knowingly possess Child Pornography” and two counts of “knowingly fail to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Children Registry.”

“Champlin is also a registered Sex offender with convictions of sexual exploitation out of the State of Utah,” the spokesperson said. “He moved to Lake of the Woods in late 2018.”

Champlin was booked in the Central Virginia Regional Jail with no bond. The investigation is ongoing.
