RICHMOND, Va. — We are waking up mild, but wet Thursday morning. Temperatures are in the upper 50s to low 60s accompanied with rain showers and breezy winds. Strong winds a few thousand feet off the surface will be transported to the surface during the heaviest rain, likely resulting in wind gusts of 45-55 mph over much of the Piedmont and Tidewater. The rain will come to an end around midday, with the stronger winds gradually subsiding through early afternoon.

Much colder and drier air will return to the region Friday through the weekend as another surge of Canadian/Arctic air moves into the area. The pattern will be very dry, with only a slim chance for a rain to snow transition next Tuesday into Wednesday.
