KING WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. – An eight-year-old boy has died after a shooting inside a King William County, Virginia State Police confirmed. Family members identified the deceased child as Orlando Anderson, known to family as "Scrappy."

Anderson was shot late Monday when someone came into his house on Robin Lane and started shooting. His father and grandmother were home at the time, but Scrappy was the only person shot.

He was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and died Wednesday afternoon, according to state police.

"Quiet, funny. He got along with everybody,” relative Carolyn Anderson said about the little boy. "He was just so sweet, sweet little boy. He didn't bother anybody, played with the little kids like a normal kid would do. An eight-year-old."

Anderson loved to dance and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, she said.

Police say at 11:51 p.m. officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Robin Lane after receiving a 911 call about a shooting.

During that 911 call, police said it was reported that a man entered the home and began shooting. He then ran off. The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, investigators said.

“I hope they catch him as soon as possible. Whoever did something like this,” said Anderson. “How could you do something like this. Turn yourself in!”

Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting with the assistance of the King William County Sheriff's Office.

Two GoFundMe pages have been created to help the Anderson family as they deal with the shocking loss.

The family will hold a candlelight vigil and balloon release for Anderson this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Acquinton Elementary School. Attendees were asked to wear silver and blue in honor of his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, and/or orange, which was his favorite color.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Virginia State Police at (804)553-3445 or #77 on a cell phone or by email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
