RICHMOND, Va.-- A Richmond church is asking for the public's help as they hope to give away more than 1,000 bikes to needy children this holiday season.

Worship and Praise Church's Bikes for Christ initiative is underway and is slated for Saturday, Dec. 22.

"As we celebrate our sixth year of blessing children with bikes, we are grateful that we have supporters like you to help us achieve our goal" of 1000+ bicycles," Pastor Timothy Kirven said.

The new bikes aware handed out to children who have never experienced the joy of having their own bike.

"I was 14 years old before I got my brand new bike and that would kind of allow me," Kirven said. "I don't want to wait for children to be teenagers to enjoy a brand new bike and the smiles on these kids face when they get a bike is priceless.”

The church is also giving away a grand prize of a Star Wars Luke Skywalker Landspeeder two-seater.

Organizers said that they gave away hundreds of bikes last year, but had to turn away 200 kids, so click here if you would like to make a donation.
