STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Authorities said the 35-year-old man who barricaded himself inside a home in Stafford County for hours was arrested early Saturday morning.
Officials with the Stafford Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called for a report of shots fired at a home in the 100 block of Empress Alexandra Place just before 7:10 p.m. Friday.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned there was an armed male subject barricaded inside who was intermittently firing a weapon,” Amanda Vicinanzo with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. “After the initial shot was fired, family members in the home left the residence and called the Sheriff’s Office.”
As a result, the SWAT team, drone team, K9 units and negotiators were dispatched.
Deputies said the suspect, Brandon Hunt of Fredericksburg, continued to “intermittently fire his weapon and move around the house” for hours as deputies tried to negotiate with him.
Officials said Hunt finally surrendered when deputies deployed chemical agents into the house at 3:30 a.m.
Hunt was then taken into custody without incident, deputies said.
“The Sheriff’s Office crisis negotiators spent hours working to resolve the tense and life-threatening standoff without loss of life,” Vicinanzo said.
Hunt was charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm.
He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Deputies said no one was injured and that the incident remains under investigation.
