GOOCHLAND, Va. – A Glen Allen father has been charged in the death of his 17-month-old son. The child died in August after he was being left inside a hot car outside at the Capital One campus in Goochland County.

Aditya Gondesi, 39, was charged with a misdemeanor in connection to the August 8 incident. He said he left his son in the car after he forgot to drop him off at daycare.

The toddler died after he was left in his car seat, inside the car on an uncovered parking deck at Capital One's West Creek Business Park campus.

The child died from hyperthermia, according to officials.

Gondesi turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies Wednesday morning and was released by a magistrate soon after.

Ed Riley, a criminal defense attorney not connected to the case, said Gondesi's charge was most-commonly referred to as contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"When you have a negligent act that results in the death of a child the chances are very high there’ll be some jail time served," Riley explained.

Gondesi faces up to 12 months in jail and a possible $2,500 fine, if convicted.

The misdemeanor charge may also indicate that the prosecutor didn't find evidence to establish anything higher than the most minimal level of negligence.

The charge against Gondesi was requested by the Goochland County Commonwealth’s Attorney at the conclusion of the sheriff’s office investigation.

No one answered the door at Gondesi's Glen Allen residence.

The father will appear in Goochland Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court at 9 a.m. Thursday.
