HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police are investigating a shooting on Hungary Spring Road, near Skipwith Road, in western Henrico County.

A man was shot in the foot on Hungary Spring Road and ran to the nearby Skipwith Elementary School for help, according to Henrico Police Lt. Lauren Hummel.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

“We closed all the blinds,” said one fifth-grader at the school.

The student sad initially she thought the lockdown might be a drill.

“My teacher said that it was real and there was a shooting like five minutes away,” she added.

Henrico Police say somebody called 911 after seeing a man with a gunshot wound in his foot stumble his way to the school parking lot. Police believe the man also ran through the Skipwith Green community as he looked for help.

The victim's injuries are non-life threatening, police confirmed.

The scary situation has one area mom on high alert.

“Lock your doors, set the alarm. Keep yourself inside. Don't go outside unless you have to,” she said.

Police have not yet released information about a shooting suspect. However, police located several shell casings on the road.

This is a developing story. Witnesses can send news tips, photos, and video here.
