RICHMOND, Va. — Officials said a firefighter suffered an ankle injury battling an apartment fire on Richmond’s Southside Saturday night.

Lt. Christopher Armstrong said crews were called to an apartment fire in the 2800 block of Bainbridge Street in the city’s Swansboro neighborhood just before 7:55 p.m.

“Primary and secondary search complete, negative results,” officials posted on Facebook.

Armstrong said a woman and two children made it out of the home safely.

The firefighter that suffered the “minor injury” was taken to an area hospital for evaluation,” Armstrong said.

The cause of the fire, which Armstrong said started in a closet in the apartment, is under investigation.
