RICHMOND, Va. -- Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning due to a "viable threat of a possible future shooting on the campus." The hospital is located on North 28th Street, near Nine Mile Road, in Richmond.

After an investigaton by Richmond Police, the lockdown was lifted at 5:32 p.m.

"By placing the hospital on lockdown, the safety of the patients, medical staff and essential personnel was secured," a hospital spokesperson said. "As a further safety precaution, visitors, hospital volunteers and non-essential personnel safely departed the campus prior to the lockdown, and they are now able to return."

Bon Secours officials and Richmond Police worked alongside hospital security and administration to bring the matter to a safe conclusion.

"All hospital operations and those of the adjacent Bon Secours Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Living have resumed their normal status," the spokesperson continued.
