CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer and SUV at Hull Street Road and Sappony Road in Chesterfield County. The crash was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police have confirmed two people, a man and a woman, were killed in the crash. Both crash victims were in the SUV.

Police said the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Both east and west lanes of Hull Street Road were closed as police investigate the situation.

The road didn't open back up until just before noon Wednesday.

James Huff, who was transporting logs to the saw mill in his truck Wednesday morning, was one of many drivers redirected at Hull Street Road hours after the crash.

He sat at a gas station for hours waiting for the road to open up.

"It's kind of hectic but as I stated, what can you do? You just have to sit and wait and be patient," said Huff.

Huff said he drives Hull Street Road frequently and has noticed some dangers.

"The speed limit here, between here and until you get across the river there, people just driving too fast," Huff said.

He said others have died along the road before.

"You go about a mile up the road here.... and like I said on the east and west side you’re going to see crosses," he said.

Police said the gas tank ruptured on the tractor-trailer. A fuel leak was also reported as a result of this crash, but officials did not consider the leak an excessive hazard.
