RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond Police are investigating a shooting after a victim walked into Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Police are investigating the shooting at N 37th and R Streets in the Oakwood neighborhood. Officials said they are investigating when the shooting happened since the victim took himself to the hospital.

That victim has life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Crime Insider sources tell CBS 6’s Jon Burkett the victim was transported to VCU Medical Center for further treatment. Those same sources confirmed the victim was in critical condition as of late Wednesday night.

A neighbor tells CBS 6 that they heard about seven gunshots during the shooting.

Steve Lack and his dog walked past Richmond Police as they gathered evidence in an alleyway.

"I was surprised. We hear gunshots coming from about a mile away in the housing project area sometimes late night, but never close to us - not on this block," Lack explained.

Lack was shocked to hear that a person was suffering from potentially deadly injuries after the shooting in his neighborhood.

"There’s a lot of new people moving in the neighborhood and working on the houses that kind are neglected for a while. But, this neighborhood is improving," he said.

There is no word on a suspect or motive at this time.
