Out-of-control van strikes 2 Richmond homes

RICHMOND, Va. -- A driver lost control of a van that struck two Richmond homes overnight.

The driver, identified as 32-year-old Elevterio S. Cruz, was not seriously hurt in the crash which was reported at about 1:19 a.m. Wednesday along the 2500 block of Bells Road in South Richmond.

"The vehicle turned right onto Bells Road and was swerving. The driver of the vehicle then drove up onto the median of Bells Road and proceeded to travel across both lanes. The driver of the vehicle then proceeded to drive into two homes," a Richmond Police spokesperson said.

The van knocked down a wall of the first home, which was vacant.

It then struck the brick exterior of a second home.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

Cruz was charged with Driving Under the Influence and felony child endangerment.
