Pilot killed after small plane crashes near Crozet

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. -- Virginia State Police said one person was killed when a  small plane crashed in western Albemarle County near Crozet Sunday night, WCAV reported.

Troopers said the plane went down around 9 p.m. on private property along Saddle Hollow Road near Crozet.

"Rescue crews are having a hard time accessing the site due to terrain," Lynne Vogt with WVIR tweeted.

Officials said the pilot was the only person on board.

His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification.

There has been no word on what caused the plane to go down.
