HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A gas leak in Henrico's West End prompted the voluntary evacuation of nearly 100 homes near the intersection of Skipwith and Three Chopt roads. The leak was reported around 11 p.m. Thursday. Most neighbors were allowed to return to their homes around 2 a.m. Friday.

Henrico Fire Department  and Police Department responded to the area of Skipwith Road and Roswell Road just after 11:00 p.m.

CBS 6 Photojournalist Cole Pearson reported a strong odor in the area and saw liquid bubbling in the cracks of the road. Richmond Gas said gas goes to the weakest point, which is why it is bubbling through the roadway.

Crews closed Skipwith Road between Three Chopt and Woodley road in order to repair the line.
