RICHMOND, Va. --  Friday will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower 50s.  Clouds will increase on Saturday, and there's the slight chance of a rain or snow shower across southside Virginia.

Our attention then turns to a storm for the second half of the weekend.  The storm will track through the southeastern United States, and its exact track and proximity to Virginia will dictate how much precipitation we receive, and how much of it will be rain or snow.

At this point, the chance of precipitation is fairly high on Sunday, and it looks like it should be mainly rain for the metro and points south and east.  There is a higher likelihood of a mix or some snow well north and west of Richmond.  Highs Sunday will range from the mid 30s northwest to the mid 40s southeast.

The storm track past Sunday is still uncertain, whether it moves directly east into the Atlantic or curves to the northeast and heads to New England.  As the storm exits, it will bring some colder air in behind it, so there's a better chance of rain mixing with or changing to snow across the metro Sunday night into early Monday.  The position of the storm will determine how long that precipitation lasts into Monday.

Temperatures during the event will help limit accumulations, and the best chance of seeing accumulating snow will be well north and west of Richmond.  We should have more data and precision on precipitation types and potential accumulations for you on Friday.

Also of note, one of the main computer models we study is pushing the storm far enough south to not even affect us.  It is an outlier compared to the other models and model runs, but something to consider as well.

We will continue to post updates to the storm forecast on our weather page.
