HENRICO COUNTY, Va - A 59-year-old woman suffered minor burns when her Henrico home caught fire Wednesday morning.

"[She] was awoken by a smoke alarm and was able to evacuate from the home on her own," Henrico Fire spokesman Capt. Rob Rowley said. "Henrico Fire hopes this highlights the importance of working smoke alarms in every home."

The cause of the fire, reported at the home near the corner of Lee Avenue and Wilson Avenue -- by Longdale Elementary School -- remained under investigation.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The woman who escaped the house will be able to stay with family while recovering from the fire.
