Quintana Roo, MEXICO -- A Virginia woman, her 11-year-old son, and her 78-year-old mother were among the people killed when their tour bus overturned Tuesday in Mexico.

The family was on vacation in Mexico at the time of the crash.

Anna Behar, of Lorton, and her son Daniel died in the crash, family members told WUSA.

Anna's mother, 78-year-old Fanya Shamis, of Florida, was also killed, relative Israel Franco told WUSA.

Anna's husband and a second son survived, according to the report.

The Virginians were among eight US citizens, two Swedish tourists and at least one Canadian killed when the tour bus overturned in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The bus was carrying 31 people, including tourists from the United States, Canada, Italy, Brazil and Sweden, in the state of Quintana Roo, according to Public Security of Quintana Roo.

The family, according to relatives, was vacationing with Royal Caribbean Cruises and the bus was taking them to the Chacchoben Ruins in eastern Mexico.

"The news from Costa Maya about a bus accident involving Celebrity Equinox and Serenade of the Seas guests is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to all those involved. We are doing all we can to care for our guests, including assisting with medical care and transportation," the cruise line tweeted. "Our 27 guests were on a bus tour to the Chacchoben Ruins. We are working with the local authorities to learn more about the accident. We are doing all we can to help our guests."

This is a developing story.
