RICHMOND, Va. – A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested after police say the teen robbed an online seller at gunpoint on Richmond’s Southside, according to Crime Insider sources.

The armed robbery happened Wednesday at the Saint John’s Woods apartments.

Sources confirm a 16-year-old pulled a gun and robbed the person. The teen suspect was later captured by robbery detectives, those sources said.

It is the latest in what people living there say has been recently seen in a surge in crime.

"The biggest thing is more so the crime... dealing with safety in itself,” said resident Robert Shuffett. “From the break-ins of the apartments itself... to break-ins of cars. It's a lot."

“The amount of little entrances, the holes that people cut into the fence back there… Just be aware and prepare,” Shuffett warned.

This incident was the latest of a number of similar robberies in recent weeks. A second incident happened Wednesday in Shockoe Bottom, sources say. The incidents aren't believed to be related.

Police say there are numerous safe zones to meet and sell items, including Richmond police stations. If the buyer refuses to meet there, that should be a red flag.
