Petersburg man with drugs in car leads police on interstate chase

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A Petersburg man had drugs in the car when he ran from local authorities Thursday evening, according to Virginia State Police

Shawon Q. Beasley, 25, was driving a Lexus sedan on I-95 at Exit 67 when Chesterfield Police gave pursuit. Police have not yet said why they were in pursuit.

The fleeing vehicle took Exit 54 (Temple Avenue) in Colonial Heights, at which point the Virginia State Police became primary in the pursuit.

Beasley, stopped the vehicle on Monument Drive in Petersburg, Va., and then fled on foot.  The trooper was able to apprehend Beasley without further incident.  A male passenger in the vehicle also fled on foot and remains at large.

Beasley was charged with four felony counts of eluding police, one misdemeanor count of eluding police, one felony possession of schedule I or II drug,  one felony possession with the intent to sell/distribute Schedule I or II drug, and one misdemeanor for driving without a valid license.

He was taken to the Chesterfield County Jail.

At the time of the pursuit, there was joint traffic operation between state and local police being conducted on Chippenham Parkway.

Henrico County Police, Richmond Police, Chesterfield Police and the Virginia State Police have partnered to emphasize the importance of safe driving.
