Authorities nab ‘no frills’ bandit suspected of robbing 3 Va. banks

RICHMOND, Va. -- The serial bank robber dubbed the "No Frills Bandit" is in custody, the FBI Richmond office confirmed.  Russell Tyrone Carterwas arrested Dec. 5, according to federal documents obtained by CBS 6.

He is charged with two of the robberies done by the 'No Frills' bandit, the FBI said.

Carter's preliminary and detention hearings are set for Monday, Dec. 11.

Back in September, the FBI got involved to help find Carter, who was accused of robbing at least three Central Virginia banks since July. Based on information provided by the FBI, Carter robbed banks using demand notes. In two instances, Carter implied he had a weapon.

Police described the bank robber as a black male, approximately 5’11” to 6’2”, 200-225 pounds, heavy set, with facial hair resembling a scruffy beard; wearing a black shirt, jeans and a blue and green ball cap.

In each instance he wore dark, generic clothing that did not stand out.

He is suspected of robbing a Union Bank and Trust on Morris Road in Spotsylvania on July 24, 2017; a BB&T on Mechanicsville Turnpike in Mechanicsville on August 31, 2017; a Wells Fargo Bank on Staples Mill Road in Henrico on Sept. 5, 2017.

The Richmond Division of the FBI offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that led to the identification and conviction of the No-Frills bandit.
