CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Reporter Jon Burkett left an Olive Garden waitress a big tip for CBS 6 Gives.

He knew exactly who he wanted to surprise when he met Lulu after church at the Midlothian Turnpike Olive Garden, about a month ago.

She told him that she moved to Richmond from New York, and that her teenage son also works at Olive Garden. He takes his tips and gives them to his mother to help out with bills.

“I was taken back by the story you told me about your son, your son helps you with the bill and he works here, and you both work hard,” Burkett said. “So as part of CBS 6 Gives, with Union Bank & Trust, we are going to leave you a fat tip for Christmas.

Lulu gave Jon a big hug when she heard the news.

“I’m going to sign this off and we are going to make it a $200 tip,” Burkett said. “All we ask is that you pay it forward.”

Burkett said he asked employees about her work ethic and was told she is the best.

Every day through December, a CBS 6 team member will surprise someone in the community with a random act of kindness.

The CBS 6 Month of Giving is possible due to a partnership with Union Bank and Trust.
