RICHMOND, Va - Anne Tollett, Founder of Hanover Avenue, invited us into her Fan home to share tips on keeping holiday decorating simple. Anne is featured in the the November/December 2017 issue of RHome Magazine.
Tips for a Simpler Season
No Themes, Please - Use a mix of vintage and new ornaments to decorate the tree. Candy canes (which Tollett recycles every year) add old-fashion charm.
Light It Up - add lights in various sizes. Tollet advises you to see the lights lit before you buy them. The warmth and tone of new LED lights varies.
Greens are Good - Use fresh-cut greens in your holiday decor. Choose varieties that "look good as they fade". Visit a big-box store that sells fresh trees and ask for the branches they cut off the bottom. They're free.
Get Sentimental - Tollett creates stockings for her family using pre-made red velvet ones. She adorns them with trim ornaments and pieces from her grandmother's costume jewelry collection.
