34th annual Dominion Energy Christmas Parade

RICHMOND, Va. –The 34th annual Dominion Energy Christmas Parade is Saturday, December 2nd, beginning at 10 a.m. rain or shine! The parade steps off from the Science Museum on West Broad Street and heads east to 7th Street. Prime viewing spots are considered to be Broad Street between the Science Museum and Lowe’s or arrive later and view the parade on Broad Street closer to the Coliseum.

If you can’t experience the parade in person, you can watch it LIVE on WTVR-CBS 6 the day of the parade starting at 10 a.m. to noon or see it on Christmas Day.

Parking recommendations include: Monument Avenue and side streets south of Broad Street. There will be less congestion, and roads won’t be closed.

Parking decks near VCU on Harrison and Broad or near Lombardy. Parking fees may apply.

Parking lot surrounding Lowe’s.

Road closures include:

6 a.m.-1 p.m. Broad Street, both East and Westbound closes from Davis to Strawberry.

7 a.m.-1 p.m. Leigh Street from Boulevard to Hermitage.

7 a.m.-1 p.m. DMV Drive from Leigh to Broad.

9 a.m.-1 p.m. West Bound Broad Street closes from Robinson to 8th.

This year’s parade’s Grand Marshals are Margot Lee Shetterly and Dr. Christine Darden.

Margot Lee Shetterly is a writer, researcher, entrepreneur, and the author of Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Who Helped Win the Space Race. It has been published in 16 international editions, including an English-language UK edition and 15 other languages.

Dr. Christine Darden joined NASA in the late 1960s as a data analyst at Langley Research Center in Virginia, working as part of a pool of “human computers” who wrote complex programs and crunched numbers for engineers. Over the span of her 40-year career at NASA, Dr. Darden contributed to different divisions around High Speed technology, served as Deputy Manager of the TU-144 (the high speed Russian supersonic aircraft), and led the “Experiments Program” and research in Air Traffic Management. Dr. Darden also served on many private government projects, and authored over 50 publications on wing design, flap design, and sonic boom prediction and minimization.
