Morgan Botwinick brings Scoop ice cream to the Fan

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. — Morgan Botwinick, a pastry chef and owner of Whisk bakery in the Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom neighborhood, is opening a new business in a new neighborhood.

Scoop, an ice cream shop, is slated to open in the Spring 2018 on Strawberry Street in Richmond’s Fan neighborhood.

Scoop will occupy the space left vacant when longtime neighborhood staple Video Fan closed last June.

“I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to continue the tradition that Video Fan started, and to bring a new small, local business into the neighborhood,” Botwinick said. “We know we have some big shoes to fill, but I think it will be the perfect addition to an already bustling area of the Fan, and I hope the neighborhood feels the same way.”

She plans to sell ice cream by the scoop, ice cream sandwiches, seasonal sundaes, and pints to-go.

“Everything will be made in-house, including all ice cream, waffle cones, sauces, and cookies,” a Scoop spokesperson said. “A few Whisk favorites will take on new life as menu items at Scoop, and the menu will also include gluten-free and dairy-free options.”

After moving to Richmond from New York, Botwinick worked as Assistant Pastry Chef at The Jefferson.
