CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — A 35-year-old elementary school teacher was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon on I-95 in Caroline County, according to Crime Insider sources.

Sgt. Keeli L. Hill with Virginia State Police said troopers were called to the single-vehicle crash on I-95 north at mile marker 111.3 just before 1 p.m.

Trooper said the wreck happened when an SUV traveling in the left lane abruptly veered off the interstate and struck a tree.

Hill said the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Leah M. Reed of North Chesterfield, died at the scene.

Crime Insider sources told WTVR CBS 6 Reed was a teacher at DuPont Elementary School in Hopewell and had previously taught for Richmond Public Schools.

Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
