Driver charged after crash leaves hundreds without power in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A driver has been charged in an accident that caused many to lose power in Chesterfield County.

The accident occurred in the 5900 block of Newbys Bridge Road when a vehicle crashed into a power pole in the area. No one was injured and the driver of the vehicle has been charged with driving under the influence.

According to Dominion Energy, the pole was broken in the accident and had to be shut off in order for crews to safely repair it, causing about 200 customers in the area to lose power. Crews were able to restore power in the area around noon.

The accident also closed Newbys Bridge Road for several hours and caused traffic delays in the area as crews worked to repair the downed power lines. The road was reopened just before 1:15 p.m.
