CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --The University of Virginia is investigating claims that a creative writing professor sexually harassed former students.

According to the school's newspaper, The Cavalier Daily, two former graduate students have filed complaints with the university against author John Casey, who won the National Book Award in 1989 for his novel "Spartina."

One former student claimed Casey repeatedly touched her and others and made vulgar remarks about women between 2012 and 2014.

Casey, who declined to comment to the newspaper, has taught at UVa. since the 1970s.

“The University takes seriously any report of sexual harassment and is investigating this matter in accordance with its applicable policy and procedures," a University spokesperson said in an email to the newspaper.
