Police ID pedestrian killed at South Richmond intersection

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have identified a man who died after being struck by a vehicle at a South Richmond intersection Friday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:21 p.m. when a vehicle was traveling in the left lane heading north on Cowardin Avenue approaching the intersection of Bainbridge Street. Police say that 50-year-old Edward F. Brown was attempting to cross Cowardin Avenue westbound toward the center median when he was struck by the vehicle.

Brown was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say he did not use the crosswalk when attempting to cross the street.

Officers were working a crash nearby when they heard Brown get hit by a vehicle, according to police. Crash Team investigators responded to the scene where they interviewed the driver of the vehicle and other witnesses while also taking measurements.
