RICHMOND, Va. -- Black Friday has become synonymous with shopping madness, but for many it’s still about families and friends getting out and doing fun things together, particularly with the children.

We stopped at the Science Museum on West Broad Street for the 40th annual Model Railroad Show, where children of all ages came by the thousands to marvel at the tiny trains lovingly presented by train fans/conductors.

Then we were off to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens for the first night and grand illumination of the Dominion Energy GardenFest of Lights.

The place was packed! More than 300 volunteers worked together for weeks to install a half a million lights throughout one of RVA’s most beloved attractions. It’s the 22nd year of the light festival, which runs through January 8.

We ended Black Friday where a good part of the crowd were dressed in the color of the day.

“Black Friday Goth Night” at Strange Matter in the Fan featured The Cure and The Smiths cover bands and lots of fans wearing black clothes and makeup in the Goth style that is a generation old now.

That’s a style much older than the Black Friday shopping tradition.

Check out the Black Friday action in our video.
