NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police said two people are hospitalized after the disabled SUV they were pushing on Route 60 in New Kent County was rear-ended by another vehicle Thursday afternoon.
Virginia State Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Keeli L. Hill said the crash happened at 2:55 p.m. near the 9000 block of Pocahontas Trail.
“Two individuals were pushing a disabled vehicle while one was operating the steering inside the car,” Hill said. “The disabled vehicle was struck by another vehicle from the rear. The two individuals outside the vehicle sustained injuries.”
Hill said both of the victims suffered serious injuries. One was flown via helicopter and the other was transported via ambulance to VCU Medical Center.
The person inside the car was not hurt.
Drivers were warned to expect delays and follow the posted detour, Townsend Rd. (Rt. 602) to S. Courthouse Rd. (Rt. 155) back to Pocahontas Trl. (Rt. 60).
All lanes reopened just after 6 p.m.
