DINWIDDIE, Va. – Dozens of animals were seized after Dinwiddie County animal control officers discovered a dog fighting pit, according to a search warrant executed in Dinwiddie County.

The search warrant was taken out on Tuesday, Nov. 14, after two animal control officers were dispatched for the report of two dogs attacked a hog.

The owner of the hog shot one of the dogs and the animal control officers entered the woodline to try and find the injured dog.

The pair found a blood trail and while following it discovered what they believed to be a “dog fighting pit,” the search warrant listed.

The search warrant was designed to allow animal control officers to seize any items related to the fighting of dogs.

After the search warrant was executed on Wilson Road, officers seized four swabs of red stains, a cellphone, file folder with assorted dog papers, three pictures of dogs, two scales and chains.

Also seized were 26 dogs which were found in various pens, boxes and cages. Nine of the dogs were puppies.

Both Dinwiddie County Animal Control and the Attorney General’s Office declined to comment because of the ongoing investigation.

At this time no arrests have been made.

CBS 6 has confirmed there is an animal seizure hearing set for 10 a.m. Monday.
