AMBER Alert cancelled for missing Chesterfield boy, suspect arrested

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — An AMBER Alert has been cancelled for a missing Chesterfield County boy who was believed to be in “extreme danger.”

Cayden Thomas Merchant, 3, safely located thanks to the immediate tips that came in following the AMBER Alert activation, according to police.

The 3-year-old was believed to be in the custody of James Benjamin King.

“​King, 40, was arrested in the 1700 block of Ferndale Avenue in the City of Petersburg without incident,” accoridng to policd. “King has been charged with abduction and is currently being held in the Chesterfield County Jail.”

Proir to his return, Cayden was last seen at approximately 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, at 9124 Germont Ave in North Chesterfield.
