Man shot in East Richmond dies, another has life-threatening injuries

RICHMOND, Va. -- One of the men wounded in a shooting in East Richmond Thursday afternoon has died, Richmond police officials confirmed.

Officers were dispatched to a shooting report near the intersection of 39th Street and Crestview Road just before 12:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Hakeem W. Winston, of the 800 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Winston was transported via ambulance to VCU Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Another man, who was wounded and brought to VCU Medical Center in a personal vehicle, has life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Detectives said the two incidents are connected and are not actively seeking any suspects at this time, officials said.
