PETERSBURG, Va. -- The City of Petersburg lifted its city-wide boil water notice Wednesday morning after an overnight water main break. The boil notice remains in effect for the Woodmere Apartments, the city noted.
"I am extremely proud of the Public Utilities team for working tirelessly throughout the night to ensure that our residents have safe drinking water," Petersburg City Manager Aretha Ferrell-Benavides said.
The city sent out the emergency water boil declaration at 1:50 a.m Wednesday after a water main break near South Crater Road.
The break, according to the city, was repaired at about 6:30 a.m.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said water needed to be brought to a rolling boil for one minute in order to kill protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. The Virginia Department of Health has these guidelines for boil water notices.
