CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Bernard W. Lloyd, a 67-year-old man from Drakes Branch, Va., was killed Friday morning in a crash along the 22000 block of Hull Street Road.

"A 2001 Ford truck was traveling east on Hull Street Road when it went off the left side of the road, struck a tree and caught fire," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. "[Mr. Lloyd] was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash."

A woman in the car with Lloyd was taken to Chippenham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The owner of nearby Wagging Tails Kennel said someone ran in for help.

"A girl came running in and asked for our fire extinguishers and said someone was trapped in the truck," Megan Caton, with Wagging Tails Kennel said. "What happened next? She ran out into the scene and we heard a lot of sirens."

The crash was reported at about 9:40 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
