RICHMOND, Va. – A candlelight prayer vigil Sunday evening honored two Richmond high school students who were shot to death in Mosby Court earlier this week.
Mikkaisha D. Smoot, 16, and Taliek K. Brown, 15, were found shot suffering from life-threatening injuries after a triple shooting early Wednesday morning.
Smoot and Brown were shot in the head at 1:21 a.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Accommodation Street, according to Crime Insider sources.
Brown was pronounced dead Thursday, after being removed from life-support. Smoot was pronounced dead at approximately 1 p.m. Friday, after being removed from life-support.
Two mothers stood just feet from each other feeling the deepest pain a parent can feel.
The large crowd, candles, balloons and tears honored the memory of Taliek and Mykaisha.
"It just shows me that I'm not the only one who loved her so much, and for that I'm grateful,” Danielle Bugg, Mykaisha's mother, said.
Police said that they do not have any suspects and are urging people with information to come forward.
“If the shoe was on the other foot, and I knew something, I do everything I could to help somebody else's child because no one deserves the pain I'm enduring right now,” Bugg pleaded.
While Sunday's service was about supporting the families, it was also about speaking out against violence that cut two young lives short.
The motive for the shootings is unclear.
Police are still searching for suspects in the shootings. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
