CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police in Chesterfield arrested 21 year-old Dameon D. Russell, after he allegedly jumped into a car and demanded money from the people inside.

Three people were driving on Meadowdale Boulevard, near Bensley Elementary School, Monday night at about 9:55, when a man with a gun got into their car and demanded money.

"The driver stopped in the 3000 block of Meadowdale Boulevard to drop off the female passenger, who was there to meet a female acquaintance. When the female passenger exited the vehicle, a man who was with the female acquaintance jumped into the vehicle’s rear seat, displayed a firearm and demanded money," a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. "The male passenger struggled with the suspect and the driver sped off to a nearby fire station."

The gun was fired during the struggle, though no one was hit, police said.

Two Chesterfield Police officers were parked at Chesterfield Fire and EMS Station 3, off Dundas Road, filling out paperwork.

"The suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot without taking anything. The male driver approached two officers who were parked behind the fire station completing paperwork. Those officers, along with others who responded to the scene, began investigating. K9 and air units responded. The suspect was spotted and apprehended by officers nearby," the police spokesperson said.

Russell was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting from vehicles, and firearm violation – subject to protective order.
