VCU gets 2016 signature win at home

The VCU Rams were looking for a signature win this season and they got it after they beat Middle Tennessee State 80-77 behind 20 points from JeQuan Lewis.

Richmond however couldn't get that marquee win on Saturday as the fell to Texas Tech 79-71 at the Robins Center.  During the first half of the game, Spiders forward Grant Golden collapsed near the team's beach.  After a few minutes, Golden was able sit upright and was taken off the court on a stretcher.  He was sent to an area hospital for evaluation and we were told that Golden is alert and in good spirits.

UVA improved to 9-1 on the season after a 79-39 win over Robert Morris.  Devon Hall scored a career high 13 in the win.

Virginia Tech is also 9-1 after they beat the Citadel 113-71.  Chris Clarke recorded the Hokies first career triple double; 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

In the TDIT boys semifinal, Trinity edged Benedictine 68-66 on a Jason Wade basket with two seconds left.  The Titans will play Varina in the tournament final on Monday.

On the girls side, the defending tournament champs Highland Springs had four players in double figures as they beat St. Catherine's 84-53.

In the Big River Rivalry, the High School Football All-Star game, the North beat the South 59-14.  North quarterback Juwan Carter accounted for four touchdowns in the win.

And former Prince George standout and current Boston Red Sox Jackie Bradley Jr. returned to his hometown for Jackie Bradley Jr. Day.
